I’m so excited I can’t sleep because I’m taking my parents to get their first dose of the Moderna vaccine today. We live in Florida, where getting a COVID-19 vaccine appointment is like winning the power ball lottery. Governor DeSantis declared seniors over 65 were eligible to get the shots. 0ver 4 million Floridians are over 65, so there is less supply than demand. After a 24/7 approach, we found two appointments three hours from my parents’ home. I have quarantined for the last 14 days; they have been isolated for nine months. They have been alone since March — in 6 weeks — 2 weeks after their second dose, they will still wear their masks and socially distance, but my parents will be in the same room with their children and grandchildren. They are beyond thrilled to get the vaccine. I’m so happy it brings tears to my eyes.
